About me
Hello, my name is Sandra Blais and I am a canine behavior consultant. I started my canine behavior studies in June 2021 and have been in continuous studying since then. I studied with schools such as AZCA, Évolution Canine (used to be called De Main De Maître), IAABC and others. I am also a PPG (The Professional Pet Guild) member and of the CAPDT (Canadian Association of Professional Dog Trainers).
I have always been passionate about dogs but it was by adopting an adult dog, Sadie, who was reactive that my curiosity and thirst for learning more about canine behavior began. Sadie was my first reactive dog and it was very difficult to manage at first. I decided to consult a professional who was able to give me tips and exercises to improve Sadie's emotional state. Eventually I created a support group on Facebook for people who live with reactive dogs. The group is called ''Our reactive dogs 2.0'' and is a French group. Then I decided to start my training as a canine behavior consultant to help people and their dogs understand each other and live in harmony.
About my training methods
My education methods are based on understanding your dog's behavior and emotions. What does this mean? This means that I do not use fear or pain to achieve results. I do not use coercive tools (which cause discomfort, pain or fear to your dog) and I do not use methods based on the principle of dominance. Inter-species dominance (example between dog and human) does not exist. You're not a wolf, neither is your dog, and even wolves don't live under a dominance hierarchy! This “dominant male” in canines theory of the 70s has been refuted for many years now.
I take the time to fully understand the source of the behavior and I take in consideration your dog's emotions. This allows you to tackle the problem behavior at the source and change your dog's emotions about what is creating the problem behavior in the first place. When your dog produces a behavior that you don't like, it is important to determine why he is doing this behavior to better meet your dog's needs in order to make the necessary adjustments.
